UGC plans to merge NEET, JEE into CUET

At present, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts three major entrance exams namely, Common University Entrance Test (CUET), National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Medical and allied courses (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for Engineering and Architecture courses in the country.

However, as per a recent notification, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is planning to combine NEET and JEE exams with CUET entrances. This is being considered so that the students do not suffer from stress posed by the entrance exams.

It will further solve the problem of overlapping in major national-level admission tests. Notably, CUET is country’s second-largest admission test after NEET-UG and had almost 14.9 lakh registrations this year. It is an all India-based entrance test for undergraduate, integrated, postgraduate, diploma and certification courses in 45 Central Universities of India.

The proposal, if taken up, can prove to be the single entrance examination providing multiple opportunities across disciplines to the students.
