CBSE to launch AI, STEM online programmes for students, teachers on August 15

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will launch an online programme for students and teachers on AI and STEM education. The initiative is jointly held by the Board and IIT Gandhinagar under the ‘3030 Eklavya’ online series on August 15. The programme aligns with the Board’s efforts to strengthen computational thinking,  Artificial Intelligence (AI), and STEM education among school students and teachers.

The announcement follows CBSE’s rollout of a Curriculum Framework for Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Classes 3 to 8. It is designed to introduce students to AI concepts early in their schooling. The framework centres on building logical thinking, problem-solving ability, pattern recognition, and a foundational understanding of AI and its real-world applications.

In line with this framework, the Board issued a notification on April 9, 2026, designating “Computational Thinking (CT) and Understanding Artificial Intelligence (AI)” as the training theme for the 2026–27 academic session. The objective is to enhance the overall teaching-learning experience in schools.

As part of this initiative, CBSE is working alongside schools, district training coordinators, and its Centres of Excellence. As part of the efforts, the Board has planned over 450 District Level Deliberations (DLDs) to be held nationwide.

The ‘3030 Eklavya’ Online Series aims to build strong basics. It covers Computational Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, and STEM. The programme uses inquiry-based learning activities. It also promotes critical thinking and creative problem-solving.

The first episode is titled ‘Computational Thinking and AI with Matchboxes.”’ It will be held on August 15 at 4 pm. The remaining seven episodes will stream live every Sunday from 4 pm onwards. The programme is open to teachers and students of Classes 6 and above. Participation is voluntary. Registration is free but mandatory.

The series will have eight sessions in total. Participants who complete the required homework or assignments can get a participation certificate. This costs Rs 200 plus applicable taxes. Teachers who complete all eight sessions and meet the eligibility criteria can earn a certificate of competency. This also costs Rs 200 plus taxes.

For teachers at CBSE-affiliated schools, each episode counts as three Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours under school-based training. This applies only if they earn the certificate and their names appear in the CCL-IIT Gandhinagar database.

The live sessions will be conducted in Hindi. English subtitles will be added after publication. CBSE has asked all affiliated schools to encourage eligible teachers and students to join this voluntary enrichment programme.
