Mitacs-AICTE partnership: 300 Indian students to get global research opportunity

Indian undergraduate students aspiring to gain international research experience have an opportunity to participate in the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) 2027, offered through the Mitacs-AICTE partnership. The programme will support 300 senior undergraduate students from India to undertake research internships at Canadian universities in summer 2027.

The 12-week programme allows selected students to work under the guidance of faculty members at Canadian academic institutions. Participants gain hands-on research experience, mentorship and exposure to international academic environments, providing an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world research projects.

Who Can Apply?

For the 2027 India cohort, applicants must be Indian nationals enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined undergraduate-master’s programme at an eligible Indian institution. The India-specific eligibility covers students pursuing B.E. or B.Tech programmes, with a minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 70%. Applicants must also have completed at least two years of undergraduate study and have one to three semesters remaining in their programme as of autumn 2027.

Students can explore research projects in different areas and are required to apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of 10 projects, with selections spanning at least three Canadian provinces. They must also possess sufficient proficiency in the language required for their chosen research project.

What Does the Programme Offer?

The internship provides students with an opportunity to work closely with Canadian researchers while developing research, analytical and professional skills. The programme’s support package can contribute towards round-trip airfare, transportation, accommodation, health insurance, student fees, food and incidental expenses. Students also receive access to campus mentors, industry events and professional development opportunities.

The internship is conducted in person and runs for 12 weeks, with placements scheduled between May and October.
