NTA to reconduct three UGC NET June 2026 session exam

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will reconduct UGC NET examination for three subjects: English, Commerce and Sociology. The notice was released late on Sunday with exam dates and time for the re-exam. As stated in the notification, NTA formed a committee to look into the complaints shared by students. 

The committee found that the three question papers contained many factual, typographical, and translation errors and a significant number of questions were repeated from previous examinations. Taking these issues into cognisance, they concluded that the papers did not meet the standards of a ‘fair and error-free examination,’hence a re-exam was decided. 

In its notice, the NTA clarified that the re-exam will be carried out between September 9-10. No additional examination fee will be charged from candidates who appeared for these three subjects, mentioned the notice. The English paper will be held in the first shift on September 9 from 9 am to 12 noon, while the Commerce paper will be conducted the same day from 3 pm to 6 pm in Shift 2. The Sociology paper will be held on September 10 from 9 am to 12 noon in Shift 1.

The notification follows complaints from candidates after the original UGC-NET examination, conducted from June 22 to 30 across 87 subjects. The examination determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowships and Assistant Professor positions and is also used for admission to PhD programmes.

The latest UGC-NET controversy comes at a particularly testing moment for the National Testing Agency, which has faced mounting questions over the reliability and capacity of the body. The NEET-UG alleged paper leak controversy led to protests by students in several states and resulted in formation of the Cockroach Janta Party.

On the same day, the Agency issued the provisional answer keys for the rest of the subjects. NTA has opened the challenge window for the students with Rs 200 per question to be transactioned by students along with the evidence supporting their claims.
