Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, has once again proven its dedication to social responsibility and creative activism through the commendable efforts of its NSS volunteer, Akshat Sharma. In a unique initiative that blends art and awareness, Akshat has collaborated with the Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar to promote civic sense and cleanliness through music, a medium that speaks to the heart and transcends barriers.

Rather than traditional awareness campaigns, Akshat chose to compose and perform a powerful song that highlights the urgent need for public hygiene and environmental responsibility. His lyrics address critical civic issues such as the careless disposal of garbage, fines levied on vacant plots used as dumping grounds, and the serious health risks associated with unhygienic practices, including the spread of diseases like dengue. His stirring performance has struck a chord with citizens across the city and is now being played widely to inspire cleaner living habits.

His initiative has transformed music into a tool for behavioural change, urging residents of Jalandhar to take collective ownership of their surroundings and contribute to building a healthier, more sustainable city.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra praised Akshat’s creative endeavour, describing his voice as a powerful catalyst for community transformation. She remarked that such innovative expressions from youth are instrumental in achieving the vision of a clean and beautiful Jalandhar. Dr. Dhingra also acknowledged the tireless guidance of Dr. Simki Dev, Dean of the NSS Wing, whose mentorship continues to foster socially responsible leadership among students.

This initiative stands as a testament to ACFA’s commitment to nurturing socially conscious, artistically inclined changemakers. It sets a compelling example of how the arts can be harnessed for impactful community outreach.
