As India prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day, the spirit of patriotism, national pride and remembrance came alive at Apeejay Stya University (ASU) through a special initiative organised by the NSS and Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas.
The programme sought to encourage students and members of the university community to express respect for the National Flag, remember the sacrifices and sufferings associated with the Partition of India, and reaffirm their commitment to the values of unity, harmony and responsible citizenship.
As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, students enthusiastically participated in activities centred around the Tricolour and the spirit of Independence. The campus resonated with patriotic enthusiasm as students came together to celebrate the nation while reflecting on the responsibilities that accompany freedom.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vijay Vir Singh, Vice Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, highlighted the deeper significance of Independence Day and the responsibility of the younger generation toward the nation. His message emphasised that the celebration of Independence should go beyond ceremonial observance and inspire citizens, particularly young people, to understand the value of freedom and contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.
The Vice Chancellor stressed the importance of remembering past sacrifices while looking toward the future with a sense of responsibility and optimism. He encouraged students to carry forward the values of patriotism, unity and social responsibility and to become active contributors to the development of a strong and progressive India.
His interaction with the students reflected the University’s emphasis on developing young people who are not only academically accomplished but also conscious of their duties toward society and the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Registrar of Apeejay Stya University highlighted the growing awareness and social responsibility among students. He observed that students today are aware of their responsibilities toward society and the nation.
He further noted that young people have an important role in supporting and guiding the older generation on various contemporary issues important to society. Their knowledge, awareness and familiarity with emerging developments enable them to become a bridge between generations and contribute positively to society.
The Registrar emphasised that students are the future of the country, and their participation in initiatives such as Har Ghar Tiranga provides an opportunity to nurture patriotism, civic responsibility, social awareness and leadership qualities.
The observance of Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas added a solemn and reflective dimension to the programme. The occasion provided an opportunity for the university community to remember the immense suffering, displacement and loss experienced by millions during the Partition of India.
The programme conveyed the message that remembering history is essential for building a future based on peace, harmony, mutual respect and national unity. Students were encouraged to learn from the past and contribute towards a society where diversity becomes a source of strength and unity remains a shared national value.
The combined observance of Har Ghar Tiranga and Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas thus brought together two important dimensions of nation-building—celebrating India’s freedom and remembering the human cost associated with its journey to independence.
The programme was organised by the NSS and Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University with active participation from students and members of the university community. Through such community engagement initiatives, the University continues to provide students with opportunities to translate the values of citizenship, service and patriotism into meaningful action.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to uphold the dignity of the Tiranga, cherish the values of freedom and democracy, remember the lessons of history, and contribute toward building a united, responsible and developed India.
