There’s something timeless about childhood games. They don’t need screens, gadgets, or complicated rules. They just need space to run, friends to play with, and a little imagination. That spirit came alive at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Jalandhar, where students spent the day playing classic 90s games.
The school playground was filled with colour, cheer, and energy as children explored games that many of their parents had grown up playing. They jumped across stapu squares, rolled marbles with joy, and took careful aim in carrom matches. Each activity brought a different kind of excitement, and more importantly, a new way to move, interact, and enjoy without digital distractions.
Games like Odd-Even and Day-Night had them laughing, running, and staying alert. Ludo, often a staple in Indian households, had them thinking strategically while still keeping things light-hearted. Every corner of the play area had something going on, and every face had a smile.

More than just fun
What this means is that the school isn’t just revisiting the past for nostalgia’s sake. It’s doing something quite thoughtful. By introducing traditional games, children learn to focus, stay active, and build social skills. These games help improve hand-eye coordination, movement, and quick thinking.
Ms Sonali Pusri, PPRT, summed it up well. She shared that it was a joyful experience for the children. “The games encouraged physical movement and also supported motor skill development. Most importantly, it promoted less screen time and more human connection through play,” she shared.

A reminder worth repeating
The success of the event was visible not just in how much the children enjoyed it, but in how deeply it connected with something many of us forget. The simplest activities often leave the deepest impact. As laughter echoed across the school grounds, it became clear that these games still matter and always will.
