Garima Dahiya got her daughter Aryahi admitted to Apeejay School, Saket, amid the pandemic. Right from the admission to the online classes, the overall experience has been good, says the mother. In an interview, the nutritionist talks about how teachers give personal attention to all students, her daughter’s progress at school, and more. Edited excerpts:

What made you choose Apeejay School, Saket, over others?

I did my schooling at Apeejay School, Pitampura. Being an alumna, I know how the teachers are personally involved with the students. When I visited Apeejay School, Saket, for my daughter’s admission, I could sense that the institute retains the culture that I grew up in. That is why I decided to enrol my child there.

Since the admission took place during the pandemic, were there any challenges?

There were no challenges as such. The parents were called one by one to meet the principal; social distancing was very well practised. We had a long conversation with the principal where we discussed several issues. Overall, the interaction was fruitful.

How would you compare your experience at school with that of your daughter?

For me, Apeejay is like home—I was myself a part of the family from nursery till class 12. The teachers are always there to answer your queries. Even now, whenever there is a challenge with respect to the online classes, I contact the teacher and she is there to help. I am having a pretty good experience; I love the school.

The pedagogy has evolved over the years. Do you think Apeejay’s teaching practices are in line with the same?

The way we were taught was different from that of my daughter. Usually, it is my mother who attends the online classes with my daughter since I am a working parent. The concepts are new for my mother, but the explanation is so lucid that she can easily understand everything and then help my daughter. The students are involved in a lot of activities which are helpful in keeping the kids engaged during a class and also getting them to learn.

Is there enough encouragement from the teachers to participate in extra-curricular activities?

The teachers and the students are doing as much as possible, especially during festivals. Aryahi loves to draw and paint. She speaks really well too. She participates in the activities with a lot of enthusiasm.

Would you like to recommend the school to other parents? Why?

At Apeejay, the teacher knows every student and their parents, which is a big enough achievement. Teachers give a lot of attention—they know what is going on in each child’s life and their family. I experienced it during my school days, and I see a similar response from the school even now. Parents would ideally want to send their child to a school like this. So, I would definitely recommend the school.
