She is, at present, in Class IX at Apeejay School, Nerul. She loves playing badminton and truly believes in the importance of kindness, honesty, and respect. She tries to live every day guided by these values, whether it’s helping a classmate, showing appreciation to her teachers, or being responsible at home. Living by human values, she says, helps her make the world around us a little better.
Meet Avani Yadav, who was conferred the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values (academic year 2025-26). In an impromptu interview, she shares how to stay true to human values.
The most important lesson learnt.
I would say the most important thing I’ve learnt is how small actions can create a huge impact. A simple act of politeness or honesty can brighten someone’s day and inspire others to do the same. These small gestures, when multiplied, can bring big positive changes in the world.
How do you stay true to human values?

Whenever I face peer pressure, I remind myself why my values matter. I think about how I’ll feel afterwards, whether I’ll be proud of my choices or regret them. I also surround myself with people who respect my values. It’s not always easy, but it helps me feel more confident and peaceful. Kindness, integrity, and respect are the three values I hold closest. Kindness connects people and spreads positivity. Integrity means doing what’s right even when no one is watching, which really motivates me. Respect helps me value others’ feelings, beliefs, and differences.
What role have your parents and school played in helping you imbibe these values?
My parents and teachers have played a huge role. Through their actions, my parents have taught me honesty, gratitude, and empathy. At school, my teachers encourage teamwork, fairness, and respect. Both at home and in school, I’ve learnt that living with values makes life more meaningful and fulfilling.
What advice would you give to your younger schoolmates about human values?
I would tell them to start small; every little act counts. Be kind, honest, and respectful to everyone around you. Don’t feel discouraged if others don’t notice right away. What matters is that you know you’re making a difference. Believe in the power of one individual to create positive change.
