All three children of Dr. Meenakshi Rani study in Apeejay School, Faridabad. The eldest one Yashika Khurana is in class 11 while Akshita Khurana and Shivaay Khurana are in classes 8 and 1, respectively. In this informal chat, Dr. Meenakshi describes how the school has played a critical role in the all-round development of her children

You picked Apeejay School, Faridabad for your 3 children? What made you
select the school?

First, I will tell you in brief about myself. I am a Central Govt. Employee and work for Centre For Development Of Telematics (C-DOT) as an HR Executive. Yashika joined Apeejay School, Faridabad in class 2. Before that she was in a so-called ‘prominent school’ of Faridabad. There, she was under extreme academic stress and was unable to participate in extracurricular activities. Let me share an incident with you. One day, my husband and I went to meet Yashika in school and she ignored us.  We were shocked by her behaviour. When inquired, she said there are CCTV cameras around the school and students have to be mindful of their behaviour all the time. We realised the school environment is not conducive for our child and decided to move her out of the school. I got reference of Apeejay School, Faridabad from my neighbours. There are a couple of students from my locality who go to Apeejay School, Fridabad and they had some very nice things to say about the school. I also spoke with a teacher from Apeejay School, Fridabad who resides nearby. I got positive feedback from her as well.

What did you like about Apeejay?
I deeply appreciate the importance given by Apeejay to values and family bonding. Every Mother’s Day the students make cards for their Moms. I find it immeasurably touching. I remember during an orientation programme for parents the school management requested my father-in-law to do the Lamp Lighting Ceremony. I felt so good. The focus of the school is not just on academic brilliance but on the all-round development of students.

Tell us how the school has shaped your children?
We have always received full cooperation from the school. Yashika is an international Taekwondo player. She has won more than 80 medals in taekwondo at international, national and district level events. Yashika spends most of her time training and preparing for tournaments. She is also the district brand ambassador for the Central government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. Due to her involvement in Taekwondo, Yashika attends the school for barely 3 months in a year. Despite this, her teachers have moved heaven and earth so that she doesn’t suffer academically. As a result, Yashika is consistently scoring above 90 percent. She has even received numerous Scholar Badges (awarded to meritorious students) from the school.  I also want to make it clear that she has never taken tuitions. Can you believe this? I would also like to thank the school for waiving 50 percent of the fee for my two children.

If you stand at the entry gate of Apeejay School, Faridabad you will notice that students are happy and excited entering the school in the morning and exiting it in the afternoon. You can’t notice this in any other school.
