What made you choose Apeejay Institute of Design? How are the teachers shaping your skills?
I chose Apeejay Institute of Design because of its strong reputation in design education and its focus on both creativity and technical skills. The institute provides a balanced learning environment with exposure to industry practices. The teachers play a crucial role in shaping my skills by guiding me through design processes, encouraging experimentation, and giving constructive feedback. Their mentorship has helped me improve my illustration, draping, and conceptual thinking.

What are the key skills in the age of AI one must nurture to succeed in the field of fashion design? How do you focus on skill development?

In the age of AI, creativity, originality, and critical thinking are more important than ever. Skills like design thinking, storytelling, adaptability, and digital proficiency are essential. While AI can assist with ideas and efficiency, human creativity and emotional connection remain irreplaceable. I focus on skill development by practicing sketching regularly, learning digital tools like Adobe Illustrator, researching trends, and working on concept-based projects to strengthen my design perspective.

Can you share a memorable classroom project or assignment that challenged your creativity or taught you something new?

One memorable project was creating a collection inspired by architectural elements like the Hawa Mahal. The challenge was to translate intricate jharokha patterns and color palettes into wearable garments. It pushed me to experiment with surface design, layering, and structure. Through this project, I learned how to convert abstract inspiration into practical designs while maintaining originality.

Do you think research plays a crucial role when approaching a design project?

Yes, research is extremely important in fashion design. It helps in understanding the theme deeply, exploring historical and cultural contexts, and identifying current trends. Good research ensures that the designs are meaningful, relevant, and innovative. It also helps in developing a strong concept and justifying design choices effectively.

What is your future aspiration?

My future aspiration is to become a successful fashion designer with a unique design identity. I aim to create collections that blend traditional Indian aesthetics with contemporary styles. I also aspire to work with established designers or brands initially to gain industry experience and eventually launch my own label that focuses on creativity, sustainability, and innovation.
