Meetu Bhasin, Director, Makreo Research and Consulting, says that her daughter Khyati, a class 4 student at Apeejay School, Kharghar, has shown overall improvement since the time she joined the school in nursery. In fact, she has already recommended the school to many other parents. In an interview, the mother talks about what makes Apeejay School, Kharghar, an ideal choice for kids. Edited excerpts:

Why did you pick Apeejay School, Kharghar, for your daughter?

I got to know about the school from some of my friends, whose children are studying there. I was new in Kharghar at that time and was looking for the right school for my daughter. That is when I received very good feedback about Apeejay from my friends. I missed the admission the first time but finally managed to enroll her the next year.

What has the overall experience been like? How is your daughter progressing?

Khyati has enjoyed her time at Apeejay School, Kharghar, throughout. She is a very happy child, who has shown a lot of development. She has picked up public speaking skills and has developed a lot of confidence. The teachers have a great role to play here. It is not just them who are speaking in a class, but also the students who are constantly encouraged to actively participate through role-play, presentations, etc. Besides, the teachers and I encourage her to take part in each and every competition, which has helped her overcome any kind of stage fright. The best thing about the school curriculum is that the children are learning step by step. They are introduced to a topic and then it is expanded upon as they move to higher classes. I would say that the pedagogy is up to the mark. I also hope that the school incorporates a third language in the curriculum.

What do you think of the online classes?

School education during the pandemic has been quite challenging for everyone. But I would give full marks to Apeejay for adapting to online learning so well! There was not a single occasion where we felt that our child’s education was being compromised in any way. The classes are very interactive. For instance, my daughter’s science teacher shows such interesting videos in class that the child is able to learn then and there. All the other teachers are doing equally well in teaching children. Whenever I sit with my daughter to teach something from a book, I realise she already knows about it. Overall, the online classes have been incredible. I am now looking forward to their written exams.

In an online class, does the teacher interact and give attention to every student?

Absolutely! For instance, when the online classes started initially, there were times when children would be sleepy or distracted in the morning while attending the classes. Their Hindi teacher would make them stand up and jump! These exercises are important. Teachers give equal attention to all the students and ensure their participation which is commendable.

How do the teachers help out parents?

Prior to the pandemic, there used to be one-to-one sessions with the teachers on Saturdays which were very encouraging. Now, I can get in touch with the class teacher whenever there is any doubt. She is very responsive. The journey at the school has been very smooth.
