Students of Apeejay School, Saket, recently stepped outside the classroom to understand India’s political and democratic journey through a closer lens. Four students of Class XI visited the Prime Minister’s Museum at Teen Murti Bhawan, to take part in Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya’s flagship educational initiative, Jan Se Gan Tak.
The visit was planned as an educational experience that could help students connect classroom learning with the country’s larger political history. It allowed them to explore how democratic institutions, constitutional values, and public leadership have shaped India over the years.
For students at the senior secondary level, such exposure carries particular value. Concepts linked to democracy and governance can often seem limited to chapters, dates, and definitions. A visit to a museum devoted to the country’s prime ministers and political development allows these ideas to be seen in a wider context.
The initiative also encouraged students to look at democracy as an evolving process. It brought attention to the role of leadership, public participation, and constitutional responsibility in the making of modern India.

Learning beyond textbooks
Educational visits often give students the space to ask questions and reflect at their own pace. In this case, the museum setting helped the participants engage with national history beyond the usual format of lessons and examinations.
The visit also supported the school’s effort to make learning more connected with public institutions and civic awareness. By taking part in the initiative, the students were introduced to a broader understanding of how the country’s democratic journey has developed.
The experience left them with a clearer sense of the link between history, citizenship, and constitutional values. It also showed how learning beyond the classroom can help young people understand the responsibilities that come with being informed citizens.
