Keeping pace with rapid technological advancements is integral to preparing students for the evolving demands of the corporate world. In line with this vision, Apeejay School of Management (ASM) organised two expert sessions on Financial Innovation and AI-Driven Transformations. The sessions provided students of Accounting & Finance and first-year business programmes an opportunity to understand how emerging technologies are reshaping contemporary business practices.
The sessions were conducted by Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Malhotra, Professor of Finance and Director (MBA), Thomas Jefferson University, who brought valuable academic and industry-oriented perspectives to the discussions.
The first session, titled ‘Financial Innovation: Changing Dynamics of FinTech’, was designed for Term IV Finance students. Dr. Malhotra introduced students to the conceptual foundations of financial technology and examined how FinTech is transforming conventional banking models.
The discussion explored the growing role of cloud computing, open APIs and artificial intelligence in financial services. Students gained insights into the application of AI in areas such as credit underwriting, algorithmic trading and risk management, enabling them to understand how technology is changing financial decision-making.
The session encouraged students to look beyond traditional financial systems and recognise the ways in which technological innovation is creating new models, services and opportunities within the finance sector.
The second session, ‘AI-Driven Transformations in Business’, was conducted for Term I students. Moving beyond financial technology, the session focused on the practical application of artificial intelligence across different organisational functions.
Dr. Malhotra specifically discussed the growing use of AI in accounting and continuous auditing, highlighting how intelligent technologies can transform conventional processes and support more efficient decision-making. At the same time, he emphasised that technological advancement must be accompanied by responsible practices.
The discussion highlighted critical concerns including ethical considerations, algorithmic bias and data governance. Students were encouraged to understand that successful AI adoption is not simply about deploying technology but also about ensuring that it is used responsibly, transparently and thoughtfully.
Speaking to the students, Dr. Malhotra emphasised the importance of understanding emerging technologies while remaining conscious of their wider implications: “AI-driven transformation is not merely about adopting new technology; it is about understanding how technology can create value while ensuring that innovation remains ethical, responsible and aligned with organisational goals.”
The expert-led sessions offered students actionable insights into the changing business environment and helped bridge the gap between academic concepts and contemporary corporate practices. The discussions also encouraged students to think critically about the opportunities and responsibilities associated with technology-driven transformation.
Through such industry-relevant learning initiatives, Apeejay School of Management continues to provide students with exposure to emerging developments, preparing them to navigate technology-augmented corporate roles and contribute effectively to strategic decision-making in the modern business ecosystem.
