Apeejay Institute of Design (AID), one of the pioneer institutes of Design Education, believes in promoting hands-on learning. In line with this mission, AID students attended a workshop based on the concept of ‘Biophilia’.

For the uninitiated, the term ‘Biophilia’ originates from the Greek word ‘philia’ meaning ‘love of’. Biophilia refers to man’s love for nature, an intuitive and natural drive imprinted into our DNA.

Inspired by the idea, Apeejay students from Interior Design, Graphic Design -III, and Post Graduate Design Programme- Semester I worked out innovative ways of blending nature with design at the workshop. They created commonly used products like beds, tables, chairs, and cupboards to depict elements of nature like trees, leaves, and flowers, to name a few. Students ended up with some out-of-the-box furniture pieces that spoke of their sense of aesthetics and creativity. They developed 3D models of the products to develop an in-depth understanding.

Through the exercise, the AID students were able to get closer to nature, which proved to be refreshing especially after a long challenging period due to Covid. The students were sensitised to nature and its boon.

To explore their skills, AID also organised fabric and clay workshop. Moreover, students were invited to participate in a talent hunt where they mesmerised the audience with their dance, music, and drama performances, to name a few.

AID was established in 1991 with a mission to offer a well-designed curriculum that is updated over time to make it more relevant and contemporary. The institute believes in creating professional designers capable of setting new trends dedicated to the rising standards of living while making the world a better place to live in.
