A visit to a courtroom can make the study of law far more real. For the students of Class XII-D at Apeejay School, Pitampura, an educational visit to Karkardooma Court offered a closer look at how the Indian judicial system works beyond textbooks and screen portrayals.
The students learnt that a courtroom may handle around 30 to 40 cases in a day, and sometimes even more. They also observed proceedings in a criminal courtroom where a kidnapping case was being heard. Seeing the process first-hand helped them understand the discipline, seriousness, and responsibility involved in the administration of justice.
Care for vulnerable witnesses
A key part of the visit was the Witness Deposition Room, designed for vulnerable child victims and witnesses below the age of 18. The students saw how these rooms provide a safe and non-threatening space where children can record their statements without fear or pressure.
They also visited the child waiting area. It offers children and their parents a more welcoming environment, with games, refreshments, and support staff to help them feel comfortable while they wait.

Learning about mediation
At the Mediation Centre, the students learned how a neutral third party can help people in conflict communicate and reach a solution acceptable to both sides. The session showed them that some disputes can be resolved peacefully without prolonged court proceedings.
The visit left a strong impression on the students. Hiya Bhardwaj shared, “The court visit gave me a real understanding of how the judicial system works. It was an informative and memorable learning experience.” Sharing a similar sentiment, Lakshit Khurana said, “Watching the courtroom proceedings in person was an eye-opening and unforgettable experience.”
“The Witness Deposition Room showed how sensitively the judiciary cares for children,” Aaliya Chaudhary recounted. Another student, Vaibhav Gupta, shared, “The mediation session taught me that many disputes can be resolved peacefully through communication.”
“The visit was highly educational and helped me understand the importance of justice and the functioning of courts,” Chahat Gogia added. The students expressed gratitude to Judge Manish Khurana for making the visit possible.
The judge’s support and guidance helped turn the visit into a meaningful learning experience that connected classroom knowledge with the real workings of the justice system.
