Jaanya with her brother Nikhil and parents Kul Bhushan and Shikha Aggarwal
A class 4 student of Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, Jaanya Aggarwal’s mother Shikha believes the school to be “the best” in the city. One of the reasons is that the teachers in this school make extra efforts to facilitate every child’s growth and development, shares the mother, who is a homemaker, in an interview. Edited excerpts:
Why did you choose Apeejay School, Model Town, over other schools?
Prior to Apeejay School, Model Town, Jaanya studied in Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Jalandhar, lower kindergarten onwards. We live in a joint family, in which all the children study in Apeejay. My family members gave me positive feedback about the school. So, we did not have any second thoughts about enrolling her in the school. All that a child needs for the right kind of upbringing are provided by Apeejay.
What do you think of the school’s academic environment?
We are very satisfied with the school because it gives students enough opportunities in extra-curricular activities as well apart from academics. Jaanya takes part in several competitions, from dance to recitation and sports. Teachers ensure that students are diligent and always help them. They make children feel very comfortable in the class. They do not just teach a topic but are also there to clear any doubts that a child might have.
What was your experience with Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld like?
At Rhythms Kinderworld too, teachers used interesting ways to introduce new topics through storytelling, colours, festival-related activities, and so on.
What improvements have you seen in your daughter?
From becoming fluent in English to gaining confidence, there has been a tremendous improvement in my daughter. By participating in so many activities, she has been able to overcome stage fright. Coming to academics, teachers take the initiative to clear all concepts they teach. Performing science experiments or making crafts based on what they study has helped my daughter learn a lot.
Tell us about the classes in the online and offline modes.
My daughter went to school physically in October and she was elated to meet her friends and teachers. My daughter is very comfortable with the curriculum. She is able to manage all homework and other assignments on her own. Coming to online classes, Apeejay was the first to start full-fledged virtual classes in the pandemic. The teachers, in fact, made extra efforts to make sure the classes were held systematically. To keep children’s spirits boosted, the teachers involved them in various activities.
Apeejay focuses on value-based education. Is your daughter learning human values?
My daughter’s class paid a visit to the Red Cross Society, orphanages, and old age homes. Initiatives like this help inculcate a sense of empathy and the values of sharing and caring. They are also taught about environmental conversation–the class recently planted trees in nearby areas. Besides, the school frequently organises webinars to teach children about human values.
