Graceleen Kaur completed her PGDM in Management and Mass Communication from Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) with great pride standing out to be the topper from her batch. “Being the topper is truly a gratifying experience, but I see it more as a reflection of consistent effort rather than a single achievement. I have always believed in maintaining discipline and giving my best to whatever I pursue. AIMC provided the right environment to channel that mindset effectively, and I am grateful for the learning, exposure, and support that contributed to this outcome,” she expressed. Sharing her thoughts on her achievement and her journey with new workspace at Astrum, India’s first research-based strategic communications consulting firm, the Apeejay achiever talks about her experience. Read edited excerpts:
Did you ever expect this?
I have always aimed to perform well academically, but I focused more on the process of learning rather than the outcome. While I was confident about my preparation and dedication, I did not take the result for granted. I believe that consistency over time builds results, and this has been a continuation of that approach.
How is your experience in the new work space?
My experience in the new workspace at Astrum has been extremely enriching so far. The environment is dynamic and intellectually stimulating, with a strong emphasis on strategic thinking and precision. It has given me the opportunity to understand how communication functions in real-world scenarios, particularly in reputation and crisis management. I am learning to approach situations with greater structure and accountability.
How did you balance your academics along with your hobbies?
Balancing academics with hobbies has always been about effective time management and prioritisation. I ensured that my academic responsibilities were well planned, which allowed me to engage in activities that helped me stay refreshed and creative. I believe hobbies play an important role in maintaining perspective and preventing burnout, which ultimately supports better academic performance.

How do you credit AIMC and teachers in your learning journey?
AIMC and its faculty have played a significant role in shaping my academic and professional outlook. The curriculum was practical and aligned with industry requirements, while the faculty provided continuous guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback. Their emphasis on clarity of thought, articulation, and critical analysis helped me build a strong foundation, which has been invaluable during both placements and my current role.
What new skills have you developed so far in your job?
In my role so far, I have developed a more structured approach to communication and problem-solving. I am learning how to analyse situations from a reputation management perspective, work with tight timelines, and deliver with precision. Additionally, I have improved my ability to collaborate within teams, understand client expectations, and apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios in a fast-paced professional environment.
