Seema Upadhyay, Project Manager, Sahasra Electronics Pvt Ltd, believes that Apeejay International School, Greater Noida, is preparing her daughter Vaanya, a class 2 student, for the modern world by inculcating the right values and skills in her. In an interview, the mother shares what sets the school apart from the others. Edited excerpts:

What encouraged you to enroll your child at Apeejay International School, Greater Noida?

The strength of the class at Apeejay International School, Greater Noida, is less as compared to most schools. When we enrolled our daughter in nursery, there were only 15 students in her class. This is something that my husband and I preferred since we wanted our daughter to get full attention in class. When we visited the school, we met the teachers and other members of the staff and were very impressed.

What do you think of the school’s teaching faculty?

The teachers have been doing a wonderful job. I am very happy with the way they are teaching my daughter. The teachers focus on children’s strengths and encourage them to pursue what they genuinely like, which I think is very good. They give attention to each and every child, something that was our concern while looking for a school.

Since it is an international school, what were your expectations in terms of the curriculum? Has the school lived up to those?

Apart from academics, Apeejay International School, Greater Noida also gives the platform to students to explore other talents, through competitions and events. The school ensures that students’ knowledge is not just limited to books but gives them the required exposure in different fields.

What tools do teachers use to keep young students engaged in an online class?

Teachers are doing their best to educate the students. As for the tools, they use audio/visual clips, engage kids in activities related to the topic being taught, and so on, which keep the classes very interesting. They even invite external teachers to speak on a particular topic. By following online classes, parents also learn how to teach their kids at home.

What progress have you seen in your daughter?

Vaanya is full of confidence; she does not fear the stage, which has been achieved because of the school’s constant endeavour to get kids to participate in different extra-curricular activities. It is not about winning competitions but giving children the opportunities that make a difference.  My daughter now participates in every inter-school competition. Coming to academics, she is now able to read and write independently, make sentences, and speak fluently not just in English but Hindi as well.

Are the teachers helping parents by keeping them updated on a daily basis about all the developments in the class?

For the initial six months of online classes, I used to sit with Vaanya. Now, she can manage logging in or out on her own, all thanks to the way teachers instilled confidence in her and taught her the process step-by-step. In terms of communication with the teachers, she keeps every parent informed about things happening in school, through chat groups. The required information is also uploaded on Moodle, which makes things convenient especially for parents like me who are working and are unable to be with their children for every class.
