Vaisakhi, also known as ‘Baisakhi’ marks the harvest festival celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Punjabi community. It holds immense significance as it commemorates the harvesting of winter crops and the onset of the new agricultural season. Beyond its agricultural roots, Vaisakhi holds deep cultural and religious importance to the Punjabi community.

This vibrant festival is a kaleidoscope of folk dances like the energetic Bhangra and graceful Giddha, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Punjab. Traditional Punjabi attire, featuring vibrant colors and intricate embroidery, adds to the festive spirit. Rituals include visiting gurdwaras (Sikh temples) for special prayers and processions, emphasizing spirituality and community bonding.

Food plays a central role, with delicacies like sarson da saag (mustard greens) and makki di roti (corn bread) symbolizing the harvest bounty. Lively celebrations include singing traditional folk songs, exchanging greetings, and sharing meals with family and friends.

Vaisakhi transcends borders, uniting Punjabis globally in a joyous celebration of abundance, community, and spirituality. Apeejay School, Rhythms Kinderworld Model Town, Jalandhar too radiated with festive fervor as it hosted a delightful ‘Baisakhi Mela’ tailored for its pre-primary tiny tots. Dressed in traditional attire, both kids and mothers immersed themselves in a day filled with joyous activities and cultural experiences. From exciting rides to a plethora of toy stalls, the event catered to every child’s delight.

Adding an educational touch, teachers curated a special ‘KHET TO PLATE’ corner, enlightening young minds about the process of making chapatti (Indian flat bread) from wheat. The atmosphere reverberated with laughter and music as little ones and their mothers danced to Punjabi folk tunes, and a spirited round of musical chairs brought further the excitement. Principal Ms. Priyanka Grover graced the occasion, commending the enthusiastic participation of mothers and the vibrant energy that filled the event space.
