By valuing academic accomplishments holistically, a spotlight is cast on diverse skills including creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. This inclusive approach to recognizing achievements boosts self-esteem and inspires students to pursue their interests and capitalize on their unique talents with enthusiasm.

Meet two such students of Apeejay School, Model Town – Shahzaadveer Singh and Sashmith Kumar – who have recently been promoted to class VIII with a score that made their parents rejoice as they exhibit diverse interests.

Take the case of Shahzaadveer. Besides spending time with the family, dedicated time is spent pursuing his hobbies, which include reading for one hour and writing for another hour. “I write about journals and novels, enjoying the process of being a little author. I write novels and stories because I want to, not for fame, but to share my perspective with others. The idea is to share with others what I think and believe in,” he said.

And the only reason why we have not heard from the young writer in a while is because he has been busy penning a novel. “The long format will not be possible to share on the website,” he said and shared his formula for finding time for his passion and studies.

“The school and my teachers have been very supportive, encouraging us to focus on our studies and offering courage. They suggest studying in free periods instead of creating noise, which has helped manage stress and anxiety. It has also helped me to catch up with my studies during my free time,” Shahzaadveer added and said that he is interested in Science and has decided to pursue a career in medicine. For this, I have set a goal to study more every day than I usually do,” he added.

Besides being good at studies, he has also participated in an English poem recitation, a drawing competition, and a Doha competition. He enjoys being part of these activities, he said.

A proud moment for him has been when he made a chart on water, a pen holder, and designed an entire newspaper all by himself for an English project. His advice for a good score is simple.

“I recommend focusing on academics rather than appearances or distractions. Cutting off TV and use of smartphones has helped me focus on my studies, as they can be obstacles to success. My teachers have played a big role in my success; they have been very encouraging, offering guidance and advice on handling negativity and bullying by sharing stories and lessons that promote focusing on positive goals and ignoring negative thoughts,” Shahzaadveer said.

Sashmith on the other hand opined that to score well, students must listen to the teachers and parents; they all are well-wishers. Mobile phone usage should be limited. Stay focused and stay disciplined.

Having been promoted to class VIII this year, he loves meeting new people and going to new places, especially art galleries and historical places. “Art is my hobby and I have an interest in history, so I love to go to those places. I also take time to draw, paint, and sketch,” he, who promoted Mumkins brand after clearing various rounds interview and competitions.

Sharing his success mantra, Sashmith said: “First, I listen to my teacher carefully, and then after coming home, I do a thorough reading of chapters, including the notes that are given by the teacher. Second, I also make some notes and colourful diagrams as well. I have a schedule — I always give two hours to study and two hours for outdoor games, like football,” the young lad shared who wants to pursue a career that can have a positive impact globally.

Before signing off, he thanks his parents, who are his role models, and his teachers who are like second parents. “They help us to achieve our goals. I love my teachers. They all are hardworking,” Sashmith said in conclusion.
