While academics are vital, extracurricular activities provide a platform for students to explore their interests and talents beyond the confines of the classroom. “This school fosters a well-rounded development by nurturing various skills like leadership, teamwork, communication, time management, and creativity,” opines Kalpana Nallewar whose daughter Bhargavi studies in class VI at Apeejay School, Kharghar.

Excerpts from the interview

Why did you select Apeejay for your child?

Apeejay is one of the renowned and prestigious schools in our city. Getting admission in this school was always in our mind and hence we were elated when we came to know that our daughter got admission here.

How are the teachers here?

This school has the best pool of teachers. They are well-trained to read a child’s mind. They are extremely supportive. The way of teaching is unique. I would especially like to mention about a Science teacher, who is immensely knowledgeable, and the teaching method is such that the child is able to understand every concept with ease.

What activities does your daughter enjoy at school?

My daughter Bhargavi enjoys going to the school to the extent that she doesn’t even like vacations since she won’t be able to go to school during that period. Bhargavi is fond of dancing and drawing. There are a lot of activities in the school throughout the year like recitation competition, storytelling which is enjoyed by her. She has won prizes in many of such competitions.

Do you agree with the adage that school is the second home for a child?

I agree with the statement that school is a second home for the child. This is because she gets the equal amount of comfort from the teachers and staff as she gets at home. All her problems are solved with care and affection. I am carefree when she is in school and feels she is in safe hands.

How has school positively influenced your child?

A positive learning atmosphere helps children improve their communication skills and identify their likes, dislikes, strengths, and the areas where they need support. Bhargavi is greatly influenced by the teachers, the seniors here in Apeejay. Her drawing skills have improved. The eye of detailing for any activity may it be drawing, dancing, or writing an essay is enhanced.

Define your parenting style.

I am a strict parent while her father is lenient, so it is always a mix of things for her. We balance by letting her do some things as per her wish and a few as per our wish by making her understand why our approach is correct. This in turn enhances her decision-making skills, and on the other hand also understands our point of view.

What are your daughter’s dreams and aspirations?

She aspires to be an artist or a mathematician. She is in the happiest phase of mind when she is either painting or dancing. Bhargavi is also interested in Math, and this is only because of the kind of teaching she is provided by teachers in Apeejay.
