Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) In today’s fast-paced digital age, our lives are mostly dominated by screens. From smartphones to computers to tablets, we spend most of our day glued to electronic devices. While technology has undoubtedly revolutionised the way we live, work, and communicate, it has also led to a growing disconnect from the natural world. Amidst the constant barrage of notifications and digital distractions, we often overlook the importance of spending time in nature. However, there is a compelling case to be made for prioritising what some experts are calling “green time” over “screen time”.

First and foremost, spending time in nature offers innumerable physical health benefits. Engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, or simply taking a leisurely stroll in the park can improve cardiovascular health, boost immunity, and lower blood pressure. Moreover, exposure to natural sunlight helps regulate our circadian rhythm. Leading to better sleep quality and overall well-being. Excessive screen time has been linked to a host of health issues, including eye strain, disrupted sleep patterns, and motionless behaviour.

Beyond its physical benefits, connecting with nature is essential for our mental and emotional health. Studies have shown that spending time outdoors reduces stress, anxiety, and depression levels, while promoting feelings for happiness and relaxation. Nature has a unique ability to calm the mind, restore focus, and foster a sense of mindfulness. Conversely, prolonged screen time increases feelings of loneliness.
