On April 22, Apeejay School, Noida, once again rose to the occasion to celebrate Earth Day under the compelling theme ‘Plastic vs Planet’. This initiative seeks to curb plastic usage drastically, advocating for a significant 60 per cent reduction by 2040. The day was designed not just to educate but also to ignite a proactive approach among students toward environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The celebration was marked by a series of innovative activities across different grade levels. Students from Class VI demonstrated their understanding and concern for the environment by constructing plastic-free Earth dioramas. This activity provided a profound visual representation of a healthier planet, inspiring both participants and observers.

The creative momentum continued with class VII, where students decorated wind chimes using repurposed bottle caps. This project served as a dual reminder: the haunting persistence of plastic waste and the beauty of repurposed materials when used creatively.

Meanwhile, class VIII students delved into the intricacies of ecosystems through the creation of terrariums. This hands-on activity not only taught them about plant growth and the water cycle but also emphasised the importance of ecological balance.

From Classroom to the Great Outdoors

The senior students also played a pivotal role in this year’s Earth Day observance. Class IX students crafted beautiful paper bags from old newspapers and magazines, offering a practical and artistic alternative to plastic bags. This exercise was not only a lesson in recycling but also in creativity and utility.

The class XI students embarked on a Nature Walk within the 16-acre expanse of the school campus. This was more than a stroll; it was an educational journey where students learned to identify various flora, enriching their understanding of the natural world and its diverse species.

Planting Today for Tomorrow

The activities culminated with students from classes VI to VIII planting new life into the school’s Herbarium. This act of planting was symbolic of the day’s deeper message: every small step can lead to significant environmental change.

The Earth Day celebration at Apeejay School, Noida, was not just a single day of activities but a poignant reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to preserve our planet. It was a day filled with education, action, and hope, with each activity designed to leave a lasting impact on young minds about the importance of reducing plastic pollution and preserving our environment for generations to come.

Through these engaging and educational efforts, Apeejay School, Noida, continues to foster an environment of awareness and action among its students, empowering them to be the change-makers of tomorrow.
