In a testament to the power of student voice and participation, Apeejay School, Model Town recently embarked on a journey towards greater student empowerment through the democratic process. Led by the Officiating Principal, Ms Priyanka Grover, the school community witnessed a remarkable transformation as students took the center stage in shaping their own destinies.

Under Ms Grover’s leadership, the school embraced a philosophy of student empowerment, allowing them to speak for themselves and engage directly with their peers in the democratic process. Through initiatives such as the student council election, students were empowered to take ownership of their school community, instilling in them a sense of responsibility and pride.

Reflecting on the success of these efforts, the Principal emphasised the importance of raising awareness about democratic values and participation. She highlighted how the student-led approach not only enriched the election process but also inspired students to become more actively involved in shaping the future of their school.

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts that made this endeavour possible, Ms Grover extended her gratitude to the Headmistress, Ms Namrata Sharma, and the team of House Coordinators – Ms Meeta Oberoi, Ms Anjali Shahi, Ms Sunidhi Mehta, and Ms Maninder Kaur, along with the activity coordinator. Their dedication and commitment to organising an event reflective of the democratic principles of our nation laid the foundation for success.

“The impact of this student-led approach was evident in the positive feedback received from students, teachers, and staff members alike. The emphasis on democratic principles and the opportunity for students to actively participate in canvassing resonated deeply with the school community, fostering a culture of inclusion, dialogue, and mutual respect,” expressed Ms Grover.

“Beyond just a mere election, this initiative symbolised a broader commitment to nurturing future leaders and responsible citizens. By empowering students to voice their opinions, express their concerns, and actively engage in decision-making processes, the school is not just imparting education but also fostering values that will shape the leaders of tomorrow,” she added.

As the echoes of student empowerment reverberate throughout the corridors of Apeejay School, Model Town it serves as a reminder of the transformative power of democracy and the immense potential that lies within each and every student. With democracy as their guiding light, these young minds are poised to chart a course towards a brighter, more inclusive future for themselves and their communities.
