Harshita DasThe vibrant spirit of the Intra University Sports Carnival was ignited at Apeejay Stya University (ASU) in Gurugram as the esteemed Vice Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram Dr. Vijay Vir Singh, Registrar, Dr. Chetan Choudhary, and Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal inaugurated the much-anticipated event. The opening ceremony, witnessed by deans, faculty, and staff members from all schools, symbolised the commencement of a sporting extravaganza steeped in unity and sportsmanship.
During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Vijay Vir Singh, Vice Chancellor at Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram, gave an inspiring speech as he talked about how a university is a melting pot of diversity, where students from various backgrounds come together to pursue their dreams and passions. He emphasised, “Cultural carnival at ASU is a platform to celebrate this diversity and showcase the multitude of talents that make an institution so unique. Every talent that is showcased are the guiding stars that will light an individual’s way to a future filled with possibilities.”
The University ground was buzzing with energy as athletes showcased their prowess in various sports ranging from badminton to track and field events. Spectators were treated to thrilling matches and displays of camaraderie, setting the tone for an exhilarating day of competition.
The badminton courts emerged as focal points of intense competition, with players demonstrating agility, precision, and strategy in every match. The fast-paced rallies and gripping matches kept spectators on the edge of their seats, underscoring the passion for the sport. Winners included Om Singh and Aastha Pandey in mixed doubles, and Mahak in the singles category for girls.
Enthusiasts gathered around the courts, witnessing spirited matches filled with powerful serves and impressive teamwork. Three teams showcased athleticism and sportsmanship, captivating the audience with each exhilarating point.
In the spirited atmosphere of gully cricket, makeshift pitches echoed with the sounds of bat hitting ball and enthusiastic cheers. Players showcased their street-smart skills, turning every match into a thrilling spectacle of improvisation and camaraderie.
The Day 2 of the two-day carnival commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony, epitomising the infusion of positive energy into the festivities. Hosts Shivani Singh and Ayushi welcomed attendees, setting the stage for a celebration of human potential and aspiration.
Students showcased their artistic talents in categories such as Rangoli, Mehndi, Comic Art, and Poster Making. The artworks reflected themes ranging from environmental conservation to campus life, captivating the audience with their creativity and imagination.
From solo singing to mimicry, participants enthralled the audience with their performances. The carnival featured a plethora of talent, including captivating dance routines and thought-provoking debates.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal, Dean, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Apeejay Stya University, followed by the distribution of prizes by Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Vijay Vir Singh. The two-day extravaganza culminated in resounding success, leaving participants thrilled with joy and achievement.
The Intra University Sports and Cultural Carnival showcased the diverse talents and spirit of unity within ASU. It served as a platform for students to exhibit their skills and celebrate their achievements, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. As the festivities came to a close, participants reveled in the memories created and looked forward to future opportunities for growth and collaboration.
