Strengthening Higher Education Through Faculty Excellence
This UGC-recognised orientation programme held at Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram brought together 139 academicians to explore multidisciplinary education, research excellence, etc.
With an emphasis on equipping educators for the evolving landscape of higher education, the Association of Indian Universities–Apeejay Stya University Academic & Administrative Development Centre (AIU–ASU-AADC), Apeejay Stya University, in collaboration with the Mahatma Hansraj-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MH-MMTTC), Hansraj College, University of Delhi, organised an Online NEP Orientation and Sensitization Programme under the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP).
Recognised under the UGC Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), the eight-day programme was designed to familiarise faculty members with the vision, objectives, and implementation strategies of NEP 2020 while promoting learner-centric, multidisciplinary, and technology-enabled teaching practices in higher education.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from 139 faculty members representing universities and colleges across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and several other states. The diverse representation created a vibrant academic environment where participants exchanged ideas, experiences, and best practices from varied institutional and disciplinary backgrounds.
The inaugural session highlighted the importance of continuous faculty development in successfully translating the vision of NEP 2020 into meaningful educational practices. Throughout the programme, eminent academicians and subject experts from leading institutions delivered insightful sessions on themes central to the policy, including Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education, Indian Knowledge Systems, Academic Leadership and Governance, Higher Education and Society, Research and Development, Skill Development, Student Diversity and Inclusive Education, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Higher Education.
One of the programme’s defining features was its emphasis on transforming higher education through multidisciplinary learning, experiential pedagogy, critical thinking, research culture, academic leadership, and the effective integration of digital technologies into teaching and learning. Interactive lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions enabled participants to explore innovative pedagogical approaches, curriculum transformation, institutional governance, quality enhancement, and inclusive educational practices.
The resource persons successfully connected the philosophical foundations of NEP 2020 with practical classroom implementation. Faculty members gained valuable insights into designing learner-centric curricula, strengthening research and innovation ecosystems, integrating Indian Knowledge Systems, promoting ethical and value-based education, and preparing students with essential twenty-first century competencies. Participants also reflected on their evolving role as facilitators of holistic education capable of nurturing creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
The programme received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the relevance of the themes, the quality of the expert sessions, and the practical orientation of the discussions. Many acknowledged that the programme significantly enhanced their understanding of NEP 2020 while providing actionable strategies that could be implemented within their own institutions.
The programme concluded with a formal valedictory session, where participants expressed their appreciation for the enriching learning experience and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the vision of NEP 2020. The successful collaboration between AIU–ASU Academic & Administrative Development Centre and MH-MMTTC, Hansraj College, once again underscored their shared commitment to strengthening higher education through continuous professional development, academic leadership, research excellence, and innovative teaching practices, contributing meaningfully to the creation of a more inclusive, multidisciplinary, and future-ready education ecosystem in India.
