Apeejay teachers explore innovative AI pedagogy for young learners

With the growing emphasis on preparing young learners for a technology-driven world, continuous professional development has become essential for educators. Reinforcing this commitment to academic excellence and innovative teaching practices, teachers from Apeejay School, Sector-15, Faridabad, participated in an online workshop titled Assessment and Pedagogy in Computational Thinking & Artificial Intelligence at the Preparatory Stage. 

The workshop was conducted by Dr Sanjay Tyagi from Kurukshetra University, an eminent academician with extensive expertise in Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence in education. The session aimed to equip teachers with practical strategies to introduce Computational Thinking and AI concepts to young learners through engaging, age-appropriate, and experiential learning experiences.

Designed in alignment with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the workshop highlighted the importance of nurturing logical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, creativity, and digital literacy from the preparatory stage itself. Dr Tyagi explained how computational thinking can be seamlessly integrated across subjects rather than being taught as a standalone discipline, making learning more meaningful and interdisciplinary.

A significant focus of the session was on assessment practices that support conceptual understanding instead of rote memorisation. Participants explored innovative methods to evaluate students’ computational skills through activities, collaborative tasks, observation-based assessments, and project-based learning. The workshop also showcased classroom-ready examples that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and hands-on exploration among young learners.

Representing Apeejay School, Sector-15, Faridabad, Ms Sonu Sharma, Ms Ritu Bhambani, and Ms Pooja Mehndiratta actively participated in the interactive session. They gained valuable insights into implementing AI-integrated pedagogical practices while maintaining a child-centric and inclusive classroom environment. The workshop provided practical ideas that can be adapted to everyday teaching, enabling educators to create engaging learning experiences that prepare students for the evolving digital landscape.
