Recently, Apeejay School, Model Town, organised an insightful and interactive session on anger management for students of Class VI A. The primary aim of this session was to help young learners recognise, understand, and manage anger constructively and respectfully. In today’s fast-paced world, emotional awareness is as crucial as academic excellence. The school’s initiative was a step towards equipping students with essential life skills for their overall well-being.
The session began with a simple and clear explanation of what anger is. Students learnt that anger is a natural emotion that everyone experiences. However, the way one responds to it can make all the difference. Through engaging discussions, students were encouraged to reflect on situations that made them angry. The exercise helped them realise that anger is often triggered by frustration, disappointment, or misunderstandings.
Interactive Activities to Build Awareness
To make the session more engaging, students participated in a range of interactive activities. These included role-playing scenarios, group discussions, and reflective exercises. Each activity was designed to help them recognise their emotional responses and consider better ways of handling them.
One of the key messages conveyed was the importance of using words wisely. Students understood that expressing anger through shouting or hurtful words can lead to conflict. Instead, they were encouraged to pause, think, and respond calmly. This practice, they were told, would help in building better relationships with peers, teachers, and family members.
Techniques to Stay Calm and Focused
The session also introduced simple yet effective techniques for self-regulation. Students learnt how deep breathing, counting backwards, and positive self-talk can help in calming down when angry. They were taught to take a moment before reacting and to channel their energy into more constructive expressions of emotion.
Fostering a Positive Learning Environment
The session concluded with an open discussion where students shared what they had learnt. Many said it was helpful to talk about their feelings and learn healthy ways to manage anger. Teachers also appreciated the initiative as it aligns with the school’s focus on holistic education.
By introducing young students to the concept of anger management, Apeejay School, Model Town, is nurturing emotionally strong individuals who can face challenges with resilience and empathy. It was a session that taught important life skills and created a safe space for students to express themselves.
