He is blessed with magical fingers and a knack for finding the sweetest melodies, which culminated in his powerful potential. Meet Rudraksh Maheshwari, a student of Class XI at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park. In a candid interview, he shares how he took a leap of faith from zonal to district level that brought him surprising accolades.

Tell us something about your recent achievement at the district level.

Recently, I participated in the district-level competition in the Swar category for senior boys. At first, I was nervous; it was my second time competing at the district level, and the pressure felt higher this time. But on the way there, while sitting in the bus, I found out that the competition was being held at the same school as last time, Sahoday School in Hauz Khas. That familiar venue instantly made me feel more confident and relaxed.

How did you develop an interest in the harmonium?

It began when I was just four years old. My parents gifted me a small electric keyboard, and I instantly fell in love with it. I enjoyed it so much that I convinced them to enrol me in music classes. That’s where my musical journey began. As I grew older, my curiosity and passion for music kept growing, and naturally, I was drawn to exploring more instruments; that’s when I started playing the harmonium as well

Who inspires you the most?

It is my teachers. The level of success they’ve achieved through years of hard work and dedication truly motivates me. And the faith and hope I see in their eyes when I perform inspires me even more to keep improving and offer my best.

How did Apeejay School encourage your journey in this?

It has played a major role in supporting my musical journey. My music teachers guided me throughout the preparation and taught me the piece I performed in the competition. Even my academic teachers were very encouraging; they allowed me to use their class periods to practise in the music room and even extended submission deadlines for me. Their support truly helped me perform my best.

How has the harmonium honed your personality?

For me, playing the harmonium is much more than simply playing an instrument. It has strengthened my focus, given me emotional balance, and become a source of comfort whenever I face challenges in life. Music, to me, is a form of devotion, a way of worshipping Goddess Saraswati, which requires purity of thought, sincerity, and a strong sense of responsibility. These values have shaped my character, and that is how the harmonium has truly honed my personality.
