Marking the spirit of fitness, teamwork and healthy competition, Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and sporting fervour. Observed across the country every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, the occasion provided students an opportunity to celebrate sports while recognising the values they instil in everyday life.

The celebration aimed to encourage students to embrace physical fitness and understand the importance of discipline, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, resilience and sportsmanship. The AIMETC campus came alive with excitement as students participated enthusiastically in a range of athletic and fun-filled sporting activities.

The celebration was graced by Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director, AIMETC, who encouraged students to actively participate in sports and make physical fitness an integral part of their daily routines. He emphasised that sports play a vital role in the holistic development of young individuals by nurturing qualities such as discipline, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, resilience and sportsmanship.

A variety of events, including the Tug of War, 50-Metre Sprint, Hurdle Race, Three-Legged Race and Fun Games, were organised. Each activity tested different abilities, including speed, strength, coordination, balance, strategy and the capacity to work effectively as a team.

The 50-Metre Sprint saw Yuvraj of B.Tech I secure first position, followed by Sidhant of MBA 3 in second place. In the Three-Legged Race, Rohit and Sher Singh of BBA 1 emerged winners, while Suraj and Yuvraj of B.Tech CSE 1 secured the second position. In the girls’ category, Tanyia and Archita of MBA 1 claimed first place, while Sukhman and Ojasvi of BBA 5 finished second.

Sidhant Sharma of BBA 3 emerged victorious in the Fun Games. In the 50-Metre Hurdles, Sidhant Chandana of MBA 3 secured first position, while Rohit of BBA 1 finished second. The Tug of War witnessed an impressive display of collective strength and coordination, with the team led by Davinder of BCA 5 emerging winners in the boys’ category. In the girls’ category, the team led by Manmeet of BCA 5 claimed the winning position.

The campus atmosphere remained vibrant throughout the celebration, with students cheering for their peers and encouraging one another. Beyond the competitive aspect, the activities provided an opportunity for students to step away from their academic routines, engage in physical activity and experience the camaraderie that sports naturally foster.

Dr. Bagga reiterated that true education extends beyond classrooms and textbooks, and participation in sports gives students valuable opportunities to develop confidence, leadership skills and the ability to work collectively towards a common goal. He also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students and urged them to continue making sports and physical fitness an important part of their lives.

He further lauded the efforts of the Sports Club, particularly Mr Amanpratap Singh Pall, Assistant Professor in Computer Applications and Head, Sports Committee, and Mr Rahul Handa, Assistant Professor in Management and Co-convenor, Sports Club, for their dedicated efforts in organising the celebration.

The National Sports Day celebration concluded on a high note, leaving students with a renewed appreciation for fitness, teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship. More importantly, it reinforced AIMETC’s commitment to holistic education and its endeavour to help students lead healthy, active and balanced lives.
