Her son joined the school in KG. While the parent wanted their son to join the school earlier, they could not enrol because he did not meet the age criteria. But since joining the school, his journey has been good so far, and we have had a positive experience with the school. Meet Meenakshi Jayan, whose son, Nirav Jayan, is now studying in Class VIII at Apeejay School, Nerul.
In an impromptu interview, the parent discusses the changes she has noticed in her son over the years.
How is he doing academically?
Academically, I feel he needs to put in more effort. The school is supporting him, so there is no concern from its side. He has been finding Mathematics and Social Studies difficult for the past couple of years, and since he is now in Class VIII, I am naturally a little worried. However, I am hopeful that he will improve with regular effort and the guidance that he is getting from the teachers.
What positive changes have you noticed in him over the years?
I have seen a marked improvement in his confidence and behaviour. When I compare him with children studying at other schools, his discipline and good manners stand out. He is polite, respects his elders and friends, and is caring towards others. He is also mindful of his words and actions because he does not want to hurt anyone, either mentally or physically.
How has the school contributed to these changes?
I believe he has imbued these qualities from the school. The school places a strong emphasis on discipline, and that has had a positive influence on him. The values taught at school are clearly reflected in the way he behaves and interacts with people.
How is the school supporting him beyond academics?
The school involves students in a variety of activities, including art and craft, club activities, poster-making and slogan-writing. My son has been part of a club for the past two years and regularly participates in different tasks. These opportunities keep him engaged and allow him to demonstrate his abilities beyond academics.

How have co-curricular activities helped his personal growth?
These activities have given him valuable exposure and many opportunities to showcase his talent. The school celebrates Independence Day and several other special occasions, allowing students to participate in different ways. Such experiences have helped him become more confident and comfortable expressing himself.
What has your experience with the teachers been like?
The teachers are good and supportive. His present class teacher has been particularly encouraging and is his favourite teacher this year. I could not attend the most recent parent-teacher meeting because of some personal commitments at home. However, I had discussed his difficulties with the teachers last year, and they were supportive and they would take care of him.
How does the school keep parents involved?
The school regularly communicates with us through WhatsApp, and the teachers also call whenever required. During parent-teacher meetings, they listen patiently to our concerns and respond positively. They make a sincere effort to address the issues raised by parents.
What are the main reasons you chose Apeejay School, Nerul?
The school has been regarded as one of the leading schools in Navi Mumbai for many years. Its strong focus on discipline was another major reason we chose it for our son.
