Yunus, a Bachelor of Design student in Interior Design at Apeejay Institute of Design (AID), draws inspiration from his early exposure to construction sites through his father’s business. From discovering his passion for designing spaces to being crowned Mr. Fresher, he shares his learning journey, the support of his faculty, and his ambition to create functional, aesthetically appealing spaces. Read edited excerpts:
Why did you choose AID? Which course are you pursuing?
I chose AID because I wanted to learn more about design and improve my creative skills. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Design in Interior Design. I wanted a place where I could explore new ideas and learn through practical work. I believe AID will help me grow as a designer and prepare me for the future.
What have you learned so far at AID? How do you feel about becoming Mr. Fresher?
My journey at AID has been exciting so far. I am learning to look at things differently and express my ideas through design. Winning the title of Mr. Fresher is a very special feeling for me. For me, Mr. Fresher is not just a title but a memory that I will always cherish. I feel really happy that my college journey has started on such a beautiful note. Being a fresher and receiving this title makes the beginning of my college life even more special. It is something I will always remember and feel proud of.
How do teachers train and encourage you for your design career?
All the teachers at AID are very supportive and always ready to help us. They take a lot of effort to explain design concepts really well and are always patient with us to clarify our doubts. This makes me feel comfortable asking questions and learning from my mistakes.
All the faculty members are also very supportive and encouraging. They motivate us to try new ideas and improve our work. Having teachers who are always ready to guide us makes learning much easier and more enjoyable.
Apart from academics, are you part of any clubs or activities? How are you building your skills through them?
Apart from academics, I have enrolled in the Sports Club. I am looking forward to participating in the games and challenges organised by the club. I believe these experiences will help me develop teamwork, discipline, problem-solving skills and a healthy competitive spirit. A Literary Club activity is also coming up. I feel these qualities are valuable in the design field as well, where working with others, accepting challenges and finding solutions are essential parts of the process.
What is your future goal?
My goal is to become a good interior designer and create spaces that are both beautiful and practical. Since my father is in the construction business I also want to use what I learn at AID to contribute to our family business. In the future I hope to work on different projects and develop my own style of design. I want to create spaces that people enjoy living and working in.
