At Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, some families grow with the school year after year. Harpreet Kaur is the mother of Jaiveer Singh, a Class 1 student, and of Asreet, who is in Class 6 at the same school. Having been closely involved with the school since her daughter’s early years, she has watched her son settle in with confidence. In this conversation, she talks about why she chose Apeejay School, Rama Mandi and what she values most about the school.
While considering schools for Jaiveer, why did you opt for Apeejay, Rama Mandi?
I have a daughter, Asreet, who is in Class 6 and has been at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, for years. Our experience with her was so positive that enrolling Jaiveer here was a natural decision.

What growth have you seen in Jaiveer since admission?
The biggest change is in his discipline. He has been a very spirited child since childhood and not an easy one to handle, but he is much more disciplined now than before he joined Apeejay. His studies are going really well too. He is now the best reader of his class. He is also very active in activities, and everything is going very well.
Since Jaiveer is young, do you feel he is able to communicate and feel safe with teaching and non-teaching staff?
Yes, I have never felt otherwise. He conveys his thoughts easily in class. I have been actively involved with Apeejay since my daughter’s time, attending PTMs and meeting the Principal. I can see how confident Jaiveer has become. He shares his thoughts openly at home and at school, with no hesitation. As a parent, I never felt he was too young for this environment.
If you have a concern about the teachers or about Jaiveer’s studies, do they listen and provide solutions?
Yes, every time. Their class in-charge has been like this since my daughter’s time. She is so concerned about our children that even if we call her at 11 at night, she offers a solution right then. For subject teachers, we have their contacts too, and whenever Jaiveer has an issue with a subject, we get an instant solution.
Do you feel discipline is maintained in class?
Yes. Initially, since these are very small children. The teacher guides them from time to time. I believe a child’s foundation is 50 per cent parents and 50 per cent teachers, and the school shares that responsibility beautifully. The teacher also keeps the children inside the classroom so that they do not hurt each other, which shows how carefully they are looked after.
Do you feel activities such as drawing and other small classroom activities are done well and that Jaiveer is learning skills?
Yes. Jaiveer’s real interests lie in English speaking, storytelling, poem recitation and dance. He takes part in these with enthusiasm. The school offers all of these, so I do not feel any lack of activities. Whatever a child is interested in, the school gives them a platform for it.
