Recently, students of Apeejay School, Pitampura, got a close look at how the world of media works beyond what readers see on the printed page. Rudrakshi Malhotra of Class XI and Nitara Kapoor of Class IX participated in the HT Young Learners Program 2026, a three-day experience designed to introduce young learners to journalism, newspaper production, and media operations.
The programme helped students understand that a newspaper is not built by one department alone. It is shaped through planning, writing, editing, design, marketing, printing, circulation, and distribution.
Learning how a newspaper takes shape
The Day I focused on the fundamentals of newspaper publishing. Students were introduced to editorial planning, content creation, design, circulation, and distribution. These sessions helped them see how stories move from ideas to published pages and how each stage needs careful coordination.
This means that journalism involves both creativity and discipline. A story must be selected, shaped, edited, placed, printed, and finally delivered to readers.

Inside editorial, marketing, and design teams
On Day II, the students attended interactive sessions with marketing, editorial, and design teams. These discussions gave them insights into brand building, newsroom decision-making, news selection, and visual communication. The experience also showed how different teams contribute to the final product. Editorial teams decide what deserves attention. The design team helps readers engage with the page. Marketing teams work on how a media brand connects with its audience.
Day III took students behind the scenes of printing operations, supply chain management, and newspaper distribution. A visit to the printing facility gave them a practical understanding of how newspapers are produced and moved before they reach readers. The programme concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony.
For Rudrakshi and Nitara, the experience offered more than an introduction to journalism. It helped them understand the teamwork, creativity, innovation, and dedication involved in modern media production.
