Recently, NCERT made a move towards rationalising school textbooks to support quick student-learning continuum rehabilitation post Covid-19. This was done to make up for academic time lost due to the extended school closures during the pandemic-induced lockdowns.

According to Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi, “During the pandemic situation, students across stages of school education have struggled a lot to continue their learning through online and other modes.” And so, to reduce content and increase flexibility of school curriculum the measure has been crucial. “The renewed emphasis on constructive rather than rote learning must be accompanied by parallel changes in school textbooks,” the minister stated in response to a query in the Lok Sabha.
