The National Testing Agency (NTA) has added four new examination city centres in the North-Eastern region for candidates appearing in the UGC NET June 2026 examination. This move aims to improve accessibility and provide greater convenience to aspirants from states where examination city options have traditionally been limited.

The announcement coincides with the opening of the UGC NET June 2026 application correction window, allowing candidates to make necessary changes to their application forms, including examination city preferences. Students can modify their details through the official portal until May 28, 2026.

According to the latest notification, the newly introduced examination centres include Namsai (AL03) in Arunachal Pradesh, Kakching (MN04) and Bishnupur (MN05) in Manipur, and Cherrapunji (MG02) in Meghalaya. These additional centres are expected to benefit candidates from several North-Eastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

To further ease accessibility, NTA has also allowed candidates from North-Eastern states to choose examination cities in neighbouring states through the correction facility if suitable options are unavailable within their own state.

The UGC NET June 2026 examination is scheduled to take place from June 22 to June 30 in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The examination will cover 87 subjects across various centres in the country.

During the correction window, candidates can edit details such as date of birth, gender, category, sub-category, and examination city preferences. However, NTA clarified that certain details, including mobile number, email address, photograph, and signature, cannot be changed once submitted.

In another important update, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has expanded the subject list for UGC NET 2026 by adding Forestry and Statistics as new subjects.

UGC NET is conducted twice a year, generally in June and December, to determine eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes in universities and higher education institutions across India.

Candidates have been advised to carefully review their application details and complete corrections within the prescribed deadline to avoid complications later in the admission and examination process.
