Two students of Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, Gurshaan Singh Kooner and Arnav Punj, brought pride to the school by winning silver at the Blooms Football Cup 2026, held at Calangute Beach, Goa. Arnav was also named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament. In a candid interview, the duo shared what the win meant to them and the toughest moment in the tournament.
Arnav says his best save was a one-on-one with a striker close to the goal. I stayed focused, reacted quickly, and managed to stop the shot. Furthermore, the opposing team were attacking continuously and putting pressure on our defence. I had to stay alert and communicate well with my teammates,” he recounted.

Playing near the beach was a different experience, as well. The weather, wind, and ground conditions were different from what he was used to, but he adapted and enjoyed the challenge. “I stayed calm by concentrating on the ball, trusting my training, and reminding myself to stay confident. Good communication with my defenders also helped me stay composed,” Arnav said and added that winning the Best Goalkeeper award is a proud moment for him. “The award will motivate me to work even harder, improve my skills, and help my team achieve more success in the future,” he stated.
Thrilled to win the Silver, Gurshaan found the final match was the most difficult moment. Their team had conceded the first goal, and for a while, he was worried that we might lose. But we stayed focused and came back strongly by scoring three goals.
Like Arnav, he too found playing in Goa different from the grounds where he usually practises. “The surface felt different, especially when we moved between turf and grass. I had to get used to the turf with the shoes I had,” he said.

During the tournament, he felt that his strength was tested the most. “Since I practise a lot, I can push myself and give my best. I also tried to motivate my teammates whenever needed,” he shared, and added that winning Silver was a proud moment for him.
“It has encouraged me to work harder and improve my game further. My dream is to play for the Indian team one day. To move closer to that dream, I want to become faster on the field,” he said in conclusion.
