He aced the JEE Main Session I exam with flying colours recently. Meet Aryan Kalkal from Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri. In an interview, he candidly shares how his unflinching determination helped him cope with every pressure so that he could balance his timetable for Boards and competitive exams.
Share your preparation strategy.
My preparation was divided into several phases. First, I completed the entire syllabus of Classes XI and XII according to the JEE level and made detailed and short notes for each chapter. After completing a chapter, I solved PYQs for that chapter and practised NCERT questions for Board exams.
In addition to PYQs, I referred to a few standard books like Narendra Awasthi for Chemistry and Physics Galaxy for Physics. I took regular tests to assess my preparation, including chapter-wise tests and full-syllabus mock tests. After each test, I analysed my mistakes and worked on improving them.
During exam days, whether for pre-Boards or mock tests, I revised NCERT exercises and solved previous years’ CBSE papers. I completed two full syllabus revisions before my JEE exam. In the last month before JEE Mains, I focused on problem-solving, revised my short notes, and attempted two full-syllabus mock tests every week.
How was the difficulty level and how did you crack it?
The difficulty level of JEE Mains is much higher compared to Board exams due to its vast syllabus, which requires advanced problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of each concept. I cracked JEE through continuous effort, dedication, and hard work by focusing solely on my preparation and avoiding distractions like social media.
The role of the teachers and parents.
My teachers played a crucial role in guiding me through my journey and clearing my doubts. My parents always motivated me to push myself and helped me deal with low scores in exams. I believe I was able to clear the exam due to my relentless efforts and the unwavering support of my teachers, parents, and friends.
Will you reappear for the JEE again or have different plans?
In the January 2025 Session 1, I secured a 96.24 percentile. However, I will reappear for the April attempt with even stronger preparation and aim to achieve my target of 99 percentile.
