The Interact Club of Apeejay School, Pitampura, conducted an awareness session on zero food wastage for students of Class 5. The session was aimed at instilling responsible food habits from an early age. The awareness workshop started with a powerful thought from Pope Francis: “Throwing away food is like stealing from the table of those who are poor and hungry.”
The workshop was led by the President and Vice President of the Interact Club. The duo took the responsibility of sensitising younger students towards the importance of reducing food wastage and adopting more mindful eating and consumption habits.
The forum opened with an engaging presentation designed to help students understand the scale and impact of food wastage. The idea was to let students understand the issue both in everyday life and in the broader context of hunger and inequality. This was followed by an interactive discussion, during which students actively participated. During the sitting, Apeejay students shared their thoughts, experiences, and ideas on how food is often wasted at home, in school, and in daily life.
To make the learning more experiential, a challenge-based activity was also organised. The activity encouraged students to engage with the topic rather than simply listening. With this practical challenge, students explored everyday ways in which food wastage could be minimised — whether through better meal planning, taking appropriate portion sizes, or being more conscious while discarding leftovers.

The session concluded with a reflective discussion, where students were encouraged to think about their role in reducing food waste and to consider how small, everyday choices could contribute to more sustainable habits. Many students left the forum with a renewed sense of responsibility toward food consumption and its wider social implications.
Through this initiative, the Interact Club of Apeejay School, Pitampura, once again reaffirmed the values of empathy, responsibility, and social awareness. By addressing an issue as fundamental as food wastage, the session helped young students connect a global concern to their daily lives.
The awareness session served as a reminder that even small individual actions can collectively make a meaningful difference. This symposium reinforces the school’s broader commitment to nurturing socially responsible and empathetic young citizens.
