Schools play a significant role in shaping a student’s values and character. A good school often instills positive values, empathy, and good ethics in its students, promoting responsible citizenship. Opting for a good school is a decision that can have a profound impact on a student’s life and future opportunities.

Therefore, parents and guardians carefully research and consider various factors before making the best choice for their child’s education. Meet one such parent Manju Bisht, whose two children study at Apeejay School, Saket.

“I have two sons, Medhansh (class IV) and Devansh (class I). Since my older son is in Apeejay, it made sense to send my younger one to this school as well. When we were looking for a school for Medhansh, we had good things about this branch of Apeejay School. So, we decided to put him in the school,” Manju said, who works with an MNC; her husband works with NDTV News channel.

Excerpts from the interview.

What were some of the things that you heard about Apeejay?

I had heard that the school has a well-rounded curriculum that just didn’t only focus on studies and that it offered a study plan that provided a well-rounded personality of the child. We had heard that the school laid a strong foundation and groomed its students well for the future.

How was Medhansh’s study during COVID-19?

It was very well done. I had closely monitored my older son’s study graph. And I was impressed by the way the teachers handled the teaching then. The teachers at this school are truly amazing.

What is the teaching methodology?

I am very happy with the learning progress for both my sons. Now that my younger one has gone to the primary section, there has been a change in the teaching pattern but that had to happen since he has gone into class I. The staff is very good and extremely cooperative.

How are the teachers?

For Devansh, his teacher is Rachana ma’am and for the elder one Samya ma’am. Both of them are very good. If I have a query they are answered promptly. The other subject teachers are good as well. As a parent it is important that the teachers are good since it helps the child to learn better.

Why has holistic development become so important for parents today?

Back when we were in school, there was no infrastructure that allowed us to pick up co-curricular activities. Today, things are so different. The school ensures that your child is safe and more importantly reaches home safely after school hours. The parents are given a plan where everything is listed making it easy for parents to monitor.

Also, the advancement in technology has made learning experiential. The school has Sports Guru making it possible for the students to pick up a sport of their interest.

Do your children participate in activities?

Yes, definitely. Whenever there is an activity, both my sons are part of the events. This is what I like about this school – it provides opportunities to all the students equally.

You and your husband are working. How do you spend quality time with your sons?

It is not about quality time or the best time to spend with your child. Both my husband and I have hectic work schedules. But once we switch off, we are nowhere near our gadgets. That time is totally reserved for our sons. We chat and ask after their school. We give them our full attention and encourage them to communicate with them. My kids know that we are not here just to give them expensive gifts.

How right or wrong is it to give expensive gifts to your young children?

It is not about right or wrong. It is about the need. If your child asks for a gadget or a game to play online, sit him down and ask him why he needs it. Ask him about the game/gadget. Most of the time, children want things due to peer pressure. This is wrong. Most of the time, you will find that young kids don’t need expensive things.

It is also important to accept your failures. If you are not good at something, accept it. For instance, my older son is good at drawing, I am not. I told him that I am not good and that I will learn from him. Similarly, if my kids want to go for a holiday within the country. I tell them to research and then let us know about it and we can have a discussion on whether to go or not.
