‘Don’t limit your university experience to only classrooms and marks’

For Rimjhim, her journey at Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram, has been defined by growth, exploration and entrepreneurship. From a hesitant newcomer to a confident young professional, she has developed leadership, communication, networking, branding and business development skills. Through hands-on experiences and stepping beyond her comfort zone, Rimjhim discovered her passion for entrepreneurship and the confidence to turn ideas into action. Read edited excerpt:

How are you different today compared to your first day on campus? What skills did you learn ?

When I joined, I was much more hesitant and unsure about myself. Today, I’m more confident about communicating my ideas and taking initiative. I’ve learned skills like leadership, communication, teamwork, networking, business development, branding, and problem-solving. Most importantly, I’ve learned how to turn an idea into action.

How is the curriculum preparing you for the professional world?

The curriculum is helping me connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Through projects, presentations, events, and entrepreneurship activities, I’m developing skills like communication, leadership, teamwork, and business development, which are preparing me for the professional world.

How has this university contributed to your dreams and ambitions?

My ambition is to become an entrepreneur and build something of my own. The university has given me a platform to experiment, take risks, meet new people, and work on real ideas. Being involved in entrepreneurship activities has made my goals feel more realistic and achievable

Growth, Exploration, and Entrepreneurship

Did stepping out of your comfort zone help you discover something new about yourself?

Definitely. Whenever I stepped out of my comfort zone—whether it was participating in competitions, taking leadership responsibilities, working on branding, or exploring entrepreneurship—I discovered that I’m much more capable than I initially thought. It made me realise that I enjoy building things, taking responsibility, and turning ideas into something real.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

Don’t limit your university experience to classrooms and marks. Explore different fields, participate in events, join clubs, network with people, and take opportunities even when you feel you’re not completely ready. Your university years are the best time to experiment, make mistakes, and discover what you actually want to do.
