Mathematics is often seen as a subject of formulas and calculations, but when presented through puzzles and games, it becomes a playground for the mind. Taking on the field with this determination and spirit, this team of two wizards – Ishaan and Saanvi Joshi of Class IX at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park clinched the second position at the Maths Quest held at Apeejay School, Saket.

Sharing about the event, Saanvi explained, “I recently took part in the Triangle Your Bridge competition along with a partner, Ishaan, where I built a bridge model using triangular structures. It felt really good to see how maths could turn into something creative and practical, and I was proud that my model turned out both original and sturdy.”

While Ishaan added, “The recent mathematics quest achievement is a great achievement for me. It happened because of the combined hard work by me and Saanvi. It was a great event and a learning experience.”

As their speed, accuracy and strategy was tested, there came along a set of challenges too. “The most challenging part was including everything together – keeping the idea original, making sure every part of the bridge used triangles and stayed on theme, and at the same time ensuring the model was strong and looked good,” expressed Saanvi. Meanwhile, Ishaan biggest struggle was to speak in front of the judges and deal with the nervousness.

Though they together performed well, both of them credit their school for lending extraordinary support. “Apeejay School teachers provided me with endless support. They helped me bring that idea to life and were there with me through every step of the preparation. It provided us with much of the material needed to make different parts of our bridge. Our teachers also helped us with our idea and polished our idea,” shared Ishaan and Saanvi.

Finally on a parting note, the winners served us with their final takeaways from the competition. “My biggest takeaway from the event was that we should not underestimate ourselves by seeing other people. We should just focus on ourselves and present with confidence,” said Ishaan. And Saanvi concluded by saying, “I have learnt many things from the competition, including my current standing within the mathematics community. It has taught me that maths is present everywhere and it is beyond our understanding.”
