Yes, I agree. It is impossible to enter the school gates with rose-coloured glasses every day. Sometimes you feel like you are winning and at other times, you think that you are just existing in the school. But in this process of growth, there will be hits and misses and what must never stop, is your ability to learn every day.

So, how does confidence matter in school? Does it make a difference in all this? Ms Bhavya Arora, School Counsellor at Apeejay School International, South Delhi says, “Confidence is essential. It sets one apart from the rest. Moreover, whatever a student wishes to offer in the class, be it an opinion, idea or resource, these will be better received if one is confident. Further, it makes others understand us better and helps them accept us. In addition to this, before one actually showcases their talent or skill in front of a crowd, the starting point is the self-belief that they can do it. So, if a student cannot convince his/her self about it, how will they make others value what they bring to the table? Therefore, all students should definitely work on it.”

Feeling confident also enhances one’s motivation to attend school every day. Ms Arora continues, “Confidence is linked to security, comfort and belongingness. And every student wants to feel belonged to the institution in which they spend most part of their day. Therefore, one must believe in themselves and stand tall.”

Sharing a similar view, Ms Sangeeta Nistandra, Principal at Apeejay schools – Mahavir Marg and Tanda Road in Jalandhar says, “Confidence and self-esteem both are crucial for children. I believe that students must know the difference between right and wrong as well as have the courage of conviction to speak their mind in school.”
