What is personal branding? In simple words, it’s how you promote yourself. Personal branding is a unique combination of experience, skills and traits that you want the world to see. And in this fast-paced dynamic world, the idea of personal branding has gained momentum. For instance, you are appearing for a job interview and the interviewer asks you a very basic question – tell me about yourself. The question sounds simple but the presentation of the same can be a gamechanger in terms of bagging the job offer. This is where personal branding  plays a crucial role. It is the art of how you tell your story, and how it reflects your conduct, behaviour, spoken and unspoken words, and attitudes.

Thus, understanding the value of how personal branding can be vital for a candidate professionally, Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar,  conducted a one day workshop on ‘Personal Branding’. The session was organised by PG Department of Commerce of ACFA for the final year students of B.Com and BBA.

Dr. Ranjit Kaur and Ms. Anu Mehta from Apeejay School of Management, Dwarka, New Delhi were the resource persons for this workshop. Warmly welcoming the guests, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA said, “It is a matter of great privilege for our students to learn from the experts through this interactive session. In today’s job market, it’s imperative to create a strong personal brand if you want to be considered influential. This includes the knowledge and skills that you possess. Therefore, this session will provide you with an understanding of how to build your personality to further your career growth.”

Highlighting the important points of personal branding, Dr. Ranjit Kaur and Ms. Anu Mehta told the students that they should authentically put about their education and experience gained in various fields on social media and one should use Linkedin more than Instagram, because companies, big or small, also track potential candidates for employment via LinkedIn.

They also added that the details of the companies, clubs and NGOs one is associated with should also be provided on these sites. They opined that if individuals take personal branding seriously then definitely one can get employment according to her/his competence and qualifications.

Sharing his experience of attending the workshop, Raghav Sharma, a sixth semester B.Com  student said, “It is quite easy in today’s time to sell our own qualities, but the challenge is to sell it in a polished manner that can catch the attention of the market or employer. For having your own self brand in the market, it’s very important to add your qualities and achievements in all fields. If we can showcase our qualities in the best manner, nobody can stop us from earning a name and fame in the society. Sky has no limit and I always believe in my college’s tagline that soaring high is my nature.”

Another B. Com student Kritika Gupta added, “This lecture helped me to identify strengths which will help me to create my unique brand persona, enhancing and promoting my professional image.Overall it was a great experience.”

In the end, Dr. Dhingra highly appreciated the efforts of Dr. Monika Arora, Head of Department of Commerce along with other faculty members, such as Dr. Manisha Sharma, Dr. Vandana Gautam and Ms Riddhima Goel for successfully organising this workshop.
