It was a proud moment for Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, when its student, Khwahish Garg of Class VII-A, brought laurels to the school by winning two Silver medals in the Kumite and Kata events in the Under-14 Years Category at the 5th SKSA North India Karate Championship 2026. The prestigious championship was held at Sikh National College, Banga.

The school Principal Mr Yashpal Sharma and Vice-principal Ms Aarti Shorey Bhat, congratulated Khwahish on her remarkable achievement and extended their best wishes for her continued success in all future endeavours. Meanwhile, the Class VII student in a candid interview, discussed the kind of preparation that helped her stay focused during the championship.

How did you feel when your name was announced for two Silver medals?

I felt extremely happy, proud and emotional when my name was announced for two Silver Medals at the 5th SKSA North India Karate Championship 2026. It was a very special moment for me because all my hard work and practice had given me such a wonderful result.

Kumite and Kata test very different skills. Which event challenged you more, and why?

Kumite challenged me more because it requires quick reactions, strong mental focus and the ability to fight against an opponent in real time. In Kumite, every move must be made with alertness, confidence, and control, testing both my physical and mental strength.

What kind of preparation helped you stay focused during the championship?

My daily practice, along with motivation from my coach, parents and school, helped me stay focused during the championship. Regular training gave me confidence, and the support I received from everyone encouraged me to stay calm and perform my best.

Who has supported you the most in your karate journey so far?

My coach and my parents have truly supported me throughout my karate journey. They have always encouraged me, guided me and motivated me to keep improving, even when training felt difficult or challenging.

How does the school support you?

My school provides me with a platform, opportunities and a good coach. It also encourages me in a way that inspires me to work harder and give my best. The support from my school has helped me grow more confident and serious about karate.

How did you get interested in karate?

My family enrolled me in a karate academy during my childhood. Since then, my interest in karate developed naturally. As I continued training, I started enjoying the discipline, focus and strength that karate teaches, and it slowly became an important part of my life.
