‘Activity-based learning helps my child grow’ 

Ms Shilpa Sharma, mother of Akshata Kakkar, a Pre-Nursery student at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Jalandhar shares her experience of the school’s nurturing environment, activity-based learning and parent engagement. For Ms Sharma, the early years of a child’s education are all about exploration, learning through experiences and developing independence. 

How do you feel about Akshata’s experience at the school so far?

We are quite satisfied with her performance and overall experience. The teachers engage the children in different activities every day and also share glimpses of what they do in the classroom through WhatsApp. This helps us understand what our child is doing and how active she is. Whenever we have a query or concern, the teachers are approachable. They listen to us patiently and guide us appropriately.

Does Akshata enjoy going to school?

Yes, very much. She really enjoys going to school.

Is Akshata becoming more independent, especially when it comes to eating?

At home, I usually help her eat, although she can eat by herself as well. In school, the teachers guide and encourage her to eat independently. I believe that with time, she will definitely develop the habit of eating by herself.

Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld focuses on activity-based and experiential learning rather than only bookish or rote learning. What do you think about this approach?

I think activity-based learning is very good, especially at the Pre-Nursery level when children are very young. When a child learns by doing things herself and participates in activities, she enjoys the process and learns better. At this level, I feel learning by doing and experiential learning are among the best approaches.

How satisfied are you with the school’s environment and safety arrangements?

I am satisfied with the environment and safety arrangements. When I leave my child at school, there is an assistant to receive her, and when I come to pick her up, someone is there to attend to her. This gives me a sense of reassurance.

Do you participate in school activities and events whenever parents are invited?

Yes, I always prefer to participate whenever there is a school function or activity. I attended the Mother’s Day celebration, where Akshata and I also performed on stage. I also look forward to participating in the Janmashtami celebration with her.

How do you spend quality time with Akshata at home?

Sometimes I play with her, while at other times she plays independently with her toys. She often tells me, “Mama, please come with me. Please play with me.” Whenever possible, I take out time to play with her. I feel it is very important to sit with your child, listen to them, and spend time together. It helps them feel heard and supported.
