For Riddhi Khanna, a student of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, education is about more than gathering knowledge. It is about learning how to think, make decisions and understand others. As an awardee of the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values, she carries a quiet conviction that doing the right thing often begins in the most ordinary moments.
In this conversation, Riddhi, a student of Class 10 section A reflects on the values she has developed, the guidance of her teachers, and the one human value she believes everyone should hold on to.
Tell us about yourself Ridhi.

I am a curious person who enjoys learning and understanding the world around me. I believe education should not only help us gain knowledge but also teach us how to think, make decisions and understand others. I have many interests and aspirations, but one thing I hope to carry with me in whatever I do is a strong sense of right and wrong. I want to keep learning, stay true to my principles and use whatever knowledge I gain to make a positive difference.
What values or skills have you developed through this journey?
I have learnt to be more patient, observant and understanding of people and their circumstances. I have also realised that doing the right thing is not always about making big sacrifices. Sometimes it is about making the right choice in a small, ordinary situation. This journey has encouraged me to think more carefully about my actions instead of simply reacting to things. I am still learning, but I think becoming aware of our own shortcomings is an important part of growing.
What role have the institution and faculty played in shaping your values?
My school and teachers have helped me understand that school is about much more than examinations and marks. Their guidance, encouragement and the opportunities they provide have taught me the importance of discipline, respect and being considerate towards others. They have also given me an environment in which I can learn from my experiences and develop as an individual. I am grateful for the role they have played in my journey.
In your view, what is the most important human value everyone should possess?
I would choose devotion, because what we dedicate ourselves to has a great influence on the way we live. Devotion gives us the determination to remain committed to our duties and principles, even when things are difficult or when there is no immediate reward. However, I feel that devotion must be accompanied by wisdom and compassion. It is not enough to be steadfast. We must also think carefully about what we choose to stand by.
