Reading offers children an opportunity to explore unfamiliar worlds while developing a deeper understanding of people and relationships. With this thought, Apeejay School, Saket, organised two Book Club discussions. Students from different age groups explored literary works that encouraged them to think about adventure, friendship, responsibility, and the values that shape everyday life.

Classes VI–VII: Exploring adventure and scientific curiosity

Students of Classes VI–VII participated in a discussion on The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle. The novel follows an expedition led by Professor Challenger into a mysterious world inhabited by prehistoric creatures.

The discussion centred on the explorers’ encounters, the challenges of venturing into unknown territory, and the curiosity that drives scientific discovery. Students reflected on how courage, teamwork, and critical thinking play an important role when faced with unfamiliar situations.

The book also encouraged them to consider the importance of respecting nature and approaching the unknown with curiosity and an open mind.

For their next reading session, students will explore The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Raúf. The story focuses on friendship, kindness, empathy, and inclusion, encouraging readers to understand different perspectives and stand up for others.

Classes III–V: Understanding relationships through The Little Prince

For students of Classes III–V, the discussion focused on The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Through the protagonist’s extraordinary journey, students explored the meaning of friendship, love, kindness, and responsibility.

The discussion encouraged them to look beyond appearances and understand what makes relationships meaningful. It also helped them reflect on compassion and the values that matter in everyday interactions.

Their next book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo, will introduce them to themes of love, loss, compassion, and belonging.

Together, the two discussions highlighted how literature can encourage thoughtful reading.
