Apeejay Institute of Design strengthens workplace awareness via POSH Sensitisation Session
Interactive virtual programme highlights legal provisions, employee responsibilities and the importance of a safe and inclusive professional environment.
Apeejay Institute of Design, New Delhi, organised a Virtual Awareness Session on POSH at Workplace, as part of its continued efforts to promote awareness, sensitivity and responsible professional conduct. Organised by the Head Office, Apeejay Institute of Design, the session brought together members of the Academic and Administrative Staff for an informative discussion on workplace rights, responsibilities and professional ethics.
The virtual session was conducted by Adv. Akshita Kumar, who provided valuable insights into the legal framework of POSH and its significance in creating a safe, dignified and inclusive professional environment. Ms. Anjali Taneja, Presiding Officer, and Mr. Devesh Mishra, Assistant Registrar, were also associated with the session.
The programme commenced with an overview of the concept, evolution and legal foundation of POSH. Adv. Akshita Kumar highlighted the need for a comprehensive framework to address inappropriate conduct at the workplace and emphasised the importance of awareness and prevention in fostering an environment rooted in dignity, equality, safety and mutual respect.
Participants were sensitised to different forms of unwelcome or inappropriate behaviour, the circumstances in which such conduct may arise and the importance of maintaining professional boundaries. The discussion encouraged employees to be attentive to their interactions and understand how words, actions, gestures and behaviour can affect others.
A significant part of the session focused on key terms and provisions under the POSH framework, including the definitions of the workplace and aggrieved person. The broader scope of the workplace in situations connected with professional activities was also explained, helping participants gain greater clarity about the framework’s applicability.
The session further highlighted employees’ rights and responsibilities, along with appropriate channels for raising concerns. Participants were familiarised with the role of the Internal Committee (IC) and the responsibilities of the Presiding Officer in ensuring an appropriate and fair redressal mechanism.
The complaint, redressal and inquiry processes were also explained, including relevant procedural requirements and timelines. Particular emphasis was placed on maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity, impartiality, fairness and due process while addressing concerns.
The session concluded by reinforcing the importance of respecting personal and professional boundaries and communicating with sensitivity. It highlighted that workplace safety is a collective responsibility, requiring every member of the institution to contribute towards a culture of dignity, inclusivity, mutual respect and professional integrity.
Through such initiatives, Apeejay Institute of Design continues to strengthen awareness and promote a safe, supportive, respectful and empowering workplace for all.
